I went through handfuls of personal practice takes that had been quickly recorded- either in my own bedroom or borrowed ones, between CT and NY, on two different cellphones and a 4-track tape machine.
Each one was documented in its earliest stage of completion, directly after being written. The quality may sound a little bit raw to some, but it was a conscious decision to opt for emotion over perfection, so I hope you can appreciate it for what it is.

Track Name: Only If
meet me at the corner, on the stuytown side
you're my big city date tonight
only if that's alright
only if that's all..
Track Name: Taking a Lesson
add up the damage
i must owe you something for the holes i put in your wall
drunk and oblivious, i’m always so courteous
but best friends get the worst of us all

she just wanted to see the other room-
it was off limits to you

i hope i’m wrong,
but they seem to only miss me when i’m leaving
or on my way gone
even the days start to get on without me

they’re taking a lesson from you..

unleash your feelings
there must be a reason for the way you’re avoiding my call
the effort has been made,
though, i doubt you ever paid attention to what i had to overcome

i just wanted to show a side to you
that i was scared i outgrew

you get the bed, the apartment, the pillows
and i wield the wounds that still sting when the wind blows
i know you’ll hear this song, how the words go
while you smoke your cigarette off by the window

did you hear it yet?
oh, did you feel it yet?
Track Name: Oval Park
what do you really need to call it “home”?
where do you see, where do you picture me,
am i just meant to roam?
the car is parked on a dark street
and you can’t find your phone…

what does it really mean
to be alone?

i was tracing my old treading grounds
waiting for the sidewalk to give
until i found you in the oval park
outside the building we used to live

i still see you by that windowsill
in your favorite seat to get stoned-
back before i knew, now, what it means
to be alone.

walked myself down through numbered streets
until the miles hurt my feet
i had ended up on B to see a glimpse of rex or bethany
because they still see a side of me
that used to live over on 14th…

back before i left, oh, what it used to mean
to feel free…
Track Name: Legs (Don't Fail Me)
take your tiny hands
and grab me by my big plans
take me from this borrowed room and carry me with you
to anywhere
let’s pack and we’ll leave right now
we’ll take the roads that lead south
and drive them all out of here

legs, don’t fail me now
let me get up before you give out on me..

it’s all adding up-
the years in acts of our love
the lonely buzz and the panic-that-was
got lost in the flood of so many truths
and the words that we used
and I feel brand new
at every thought of you
